Animation and Kid’s TV

Axel B DaxelOver the last five years Fiction Music has had an increasing presence in animation and children’s TV. In 1997 we did our first big cartoon project for Nickleodeon, where we composed and produced the theme and background music for their popular show: “Sniz and Fondue”

Since then we’ve been involved in dozens of projects like “The Great Bunny Easter Special”,  cues for “Freaky Stories”, the theme and background music for “The First Five Years”, and the pilots for “Anthony Ant”, “Old Goat”, “Toad Patrol”, “Harold’s Gut”, and countless others. In 2000, we were asked to consult and design the music bible for a new kid’s show that used classical music, ballet dancers and mime. That show was called “The Toy Castle” and has become a decided hit with kids. The music for the first season was almost entirely done by Fiction Music but seasons two and three also drew heavily on the services of fellow-composers Jack Blythe, Andrew Hugget and Milo Stamm. Among them the music styles range from wholly-scored traditional classical themes to gentle solo acoustic guitar via campy jazz, traditional nursery rhymes and zany cartoon music.

Another major project that Fiction Music has recently completed was the interstitial music for the hit series “For Better or for Worse”. Our job here was to write the music for the most popular strips over the years. Basically the strips are not animated; rather they unfold much the way they would if one were reading them in the Saturday papers. For this job we used mostly acoustic guitars, mandolins and an assortment of percussion devices. The idea here was to off-set the other show music and create something more gentle and uncluttered.

Some animation projects that are in the works are a special on trains and a new series about a group of cats that cruise through cyber-space (Data Cats). These series are just starting development so will probably not be completed until late 2004.
